Do I need to take my bra off?

Do I need to take my bra off?

This is a question I get asked quite often when someone comes for a massage, and whilst it may seem obvious to some, and maybe to me before I became a holistic therapist, not everyone is experienced in going for a massage and so why would they know?

It’s not something that’s included in life’s lessons when you are growing up, and then again, taking time to relax and restore probably should be!

So what really does happen when you go for a massage?

Let’s unravel the mystery ….

Finding Out About You

I will always ask you to complete a consultation form prior to your first visit or if you haven’t been for a while and when you arrive and settle in, I will go through it with you and let you tell me about anything that you feel is important.

On each visit I will ask if anything has changed and how you are feeling that day - your answer is important to me as this is what allows me to listen to your needs at that particular moment in time.

Getting Ready

Don’t be concerned, you don’t have to strip in front of me, in fact I won’t see you naked at all during your massage.

I will explain how much of your clothing you need to take off, and normally I will ask you to remove all your clothing apart from your pants, and then leave the room while you get ready. Don't worry though, you won't be starkers!

For Your Comfort & Safety

Once you are undressed, you will get into the bed, normally face down, under a towel and a blanket – my bed is heated so you will feel lovely and comfortable.

You also won’t need to clamber into the bed as I will adjust the height to make it safe and comfortable for you to get onto.

I will knock a few minutes later before coming back into the room to do the treatment.

I will then only uncover the parts of your body that I am working on. I am very skilled at protecting your modesty and making you feel comfortable; you'll never have to uncover anything you'd rather not.

If I have a "full body" massage, will it literally be my whole body?

No definitely not!

A full-body massage doesn't include your sensitive areas and at any stage you can say which parts of your body you don't want to be touched.

A full-body massage usually includes your arms, legs, hands and feet, your neck, décolleté and back, your stomach and buttocks.

When we are discussing your massage at the consultation stage, I will ask you about your stomach and what your preference is, and we can avoid that area if you wish or any other area you dislike being touched.

If you're at all unsure, try booking for a "back, neck and shoulder" massage first to see how comfortable you are with being touched in those areas. If all goes well, then next time you can book a full-body massage.

I've Got You Covered

Even with a full-body massage, most of you stays covered most of the time.

I will unwrap your arm and shoulder, for instance, or uncover your leg while I massage that part of your body.

When I need you to turn over, I will hold the towel up as a screen so you can turn over in private.

Simple when you know how!

“I am embarrassed about my body so don’t want to go for a massage”

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard this said, and I get it, I really do.

Here’s the thing, have you seen me?

We are inherently hard on ourselves, and we don’t deserve it – what we do deserve is a massage.

I am no supermodel; I go for massages all the time because I know what you are about to find out.

Trust that I am focusing on my massage techniques and ensuring you are having a personalised relaxing massage, and not on what you think you look like – and you are never naked in my eyes and no one else can see!

Whether you choose a Swedish massage or aromatherapy massage; both are designed to relax and reduce muscle tension and stress levels – not the reverse, and I am here to help you make this a reality.

If getting remotely naked is a no-go, and you still need some pampering and stress relief, opt for a heavenly head massage with essential oils or a beautiful holistic facial to leave you feeling relaxed and restored.

I hope this has helped you decide that massage is a great option for you and at no time will you feel uneasy.

You don’t need to take my word for it – this is what my clients had to say.

Much love, Fiona x
